The Central Government has notified the appointment of Chief Justices for two High Courts—Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Justice G. Narendar has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, while Justice G.S. Sandhawalia has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
On September 24, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice G. Narendar, a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, for the position of Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, following the retirement of Justice Ritu Bahri on October 10, 2024. Earlier, Justice G.S. Sandhawalia, a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was recommended for the position of Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. However, the Collegium revised its recommendation on September 17, proposing Justice Suresh Kumar Kait for that role instead.
Justice G.S. Sandhawalia was then recommended to be the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court after October 18, 2024, following the retirement of Justice Rajiv Shakdher, who had earlier been proposed for the position.
